Another Reason We Don’t Want Cushioning In Our Shoes; “squish, squash!”
When it rains, shoes get wet. The cushioning sucks in water every time our body weight lifts away from the ground. And it squishes out water every time we put our weight down. This makes a lot of unpleasant noise. Not fun to hear during a run.
Wet shoes are also heavy shoes. Not fun to run in.
In cold weather, water logged shoes are also colder. The body doesn’t have time to warm up the shoes. There is a constant influx of new cold water.
Shoes with cushioning take a long time to dry. They can be a soggy mess that build up gross smells and are not dry in time for our next run.
In Contrast: When Barefoot Style shoes get wet; they do not hold very much water. This means barely any sound of water, barely any added weight, and a shoe that can be warmed by our body heat, because the water isn’t being constantly replaced. A shoe that dries fast, doesn’t build up much odor, and is ready for the next run. No shoe frustrations to get in the way of our good habit. Another Win for Consistency.
